“…the king will answer them, truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”

Matthew 25:40

Our vision at Spanish with a Vision is that Christ may be known, in the Dominican Republic, starting with "the least of these."

Our literacy program serves housemaids in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. Housemaids often have their education interrupted in their elementary years. They are typically forced to quit school at a young age to support their family by working as domestic workers. Consequently they grow up never having learned how to read and write.

By serving these humble servants — “the least of these”, we can share the Good News of Jesus Christ as we teach them how to read words—including God’s Word.

The literacy program helped the housemaids build confidence in themselves and allowed them to be more independent. This was also the first time some of the women felt valued and felt like someone had noticed them.

“Before I started in this program, I could not read anything, today I can read messages, a newspaper, a magazine. I am very happy because I know how to read. I would like to continue studying so I can become a teacher or a chef.”Cruz

"I am very happy because now I can read the instructions that my doctor gives me without asking anyone to help me. I almost died last year, but I am alive because The LORD protected me. Today I am pregnant, and live very far from the class, it takes me almost 2 hours to get there, but I love the teachers, and my classmates there. I feel their love and care for me and that’s why I continue to attend this class. And because I continue to learn more and more in every class.”
