Praise and Prayer

"I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well."
                                                                                                                                                             2 Timothy 1 : 5

"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom[a] you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."
                                                                                                                                                       2 Timothy 3 : 14 - 15

I was moved by a sermon our pastor preached on Mother’s Day. He described the seismic, spiritual power that comes from a mother's relationship with Jesus Christ and the influence it can have on her children and grandchildren. ” I couldn’t help but think about the influence the housemaids we currently serve can have, not only on their own families, but on the families for whom they work, particularly the children of those families.

You see, these women live five days and nights in the home of their employer and often spend more time with the children than the mother herself. Each week we give these women practical instruction in the Bible, and we trust God’s Word is having a deep reach into the hearts of these women and those whom they serve. Only God knows the number of trees hidden in the apple, so to speak.

We fly to the DR on June 11th for two weeks. We will celebrate another scholastic year with our literacy class before they break for the summer.

We are seeking the Lord’s guidance in our search for additional church partners. We only partner with a local church and conditions have to be “just right” . . . including a building suitable for the literacy and Bible class, women with the right temperament from that church willing to be trained by our team, and a commitment from the church leadership to pray for this ministry. Our desire is for that church to ultimately “own” the ministry that is started.

Our praises:

  • God has used our two teachers in a powerful way over the past year to bring literacy and His Word to the women we serve.
  • He continues to bring people into our lives who collaborate with us in this ministry.

Our prayer requests:

  • For the Lord to continue to bring new students to our existing class.
  • To identify an additional partnering church in Santo Domingo.
  • For us to encourage our literacy class and teachers.
  • Safety in travel for us and our visiting guests (a Board member and a volunteer who does our bookkeeping).

Thank you for praying for us!
